The Sami, also known as Lapps, are the indegenous people of Northern Scandinavia. Hailing from northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia (the Kola Peninsula), their lives and appearance have a lot in common with Native Americans. Their music is dominated by the unique and easily recognizable Joik (or Yoik) which again lends similarities to the chanting vocal styles of Native American music. It is often accompanied by a simple hand drum beat. We also offer an instrumental version, which is really just a drone and a hand drum beat, and could be used for any indigenous, ancient, tribal or native music. [Tempo: Slow, Medium / 50 BPM]

Traditional wedding music from The Kangra region of Himachal Pradesh in India. The instruments used are the Pipdi - a reed blowing instrument some what similar to the Shenai used in other regions of India (Played by Mangal Ram from Bir Village), and the Nagara Drums - similar to the nagras in the plains (these are very old pieces) they are made of metal with skin stretched on the playing surface. The skin is tightened with straps that weave into the edge of the skin and meet at the centre bottom of the drums. Two drums are placed opposite each other and the drummer plays them with a cross stick action. The drummer here is Jondu Ram (father of Mangal Ram.) Please note: This is a genuinely live, on-the-spot recording, and as such, there may be slight flaws in the performance and recording. [Tempo: Slow, Medium / 114 BPM]
